MonaLisa Touch Q & A

What is MonaLisa Touch?

MonaLisa Touch is a gentle, minimally invasive laser treatment that Dr. Kellogg uses for vaginal rejuvenation. The laser delivers energy to your vaginal walls to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, proteins that provide the flexibility and strength in your vaginal tissue, as well as revascularization of the tissue for improved circulation and lubrication.

Dr. Kellogg performs the procedure in the office.

How can MonaLisa Touch help me?

MonaLisa Touch can restore your vaginal health. Many women experience something called atrophic vaginitis, which is the thinning, drying, and inflammation of your vaginal walls. Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and cancer treatment may cause atrophic vaginitis.

Symptoms include:

  • Vaginal dryness or burning
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Lack of sensation during intercourse

MonaLisa Touch is a minimally invasive, safe, and effective treatment that may relieve many of these symptoms.

What can I expect during treatment with MonaLisa Touch?

For treatment, Dr. Kellogg inserts the MonaLisa Touch laser wand deep into your vagina. The laser pulse targets both the surface of your vaginal tissue, as well as the mucosal tissue underneath.

Anesthesia isn’t necessary for MonaLisa Touch therapy. You may feel some discomfort when Dr. Kellogg inserts the wand, and although the laser treatment itself isn’t painful, you may feel a light sensation. The entire treatment takes only five minutes.

There’s no downtime after treatment, so you can go back to your usual activities. However, Dr. Kellogg recommends you not insert anything into your vagina for up to three days after treatment to allow the tissue to heal. This means no use of tampons, no douching, and no sexual intercourse.

How many treatments do I need?

For best results, Dr. Kellogg recommends a minimum of three treatments set at six-week intervals. Although, you may notice an improvement in your discomfort after the first session.

After the last treatment, you should notice a significant reduction in all your symptoms and an improvement in the quality of your life, especially in the bedroom.

To maintain vaginal health, Dr. Kellogg recommends you come in annually for maintenance treatment with the MonaLisa Touch laser.
